Cumbria County Council Head Office

Views from across the city can be seen from the top floors, stylish architectural details exude from every floor making this by far one of the city’s largest and most endearing office builds in years.

Authority Chiefs believe the brand new Cumbria County Council Head Quarters building will save just under 1 million pounds in terms of running costs and will assist in the transformation of the lower end of Botchergate.

With a 10 million pound investment into the brand new Cumbria County Council Headquarters it is no surprise to see the finished results are outstanding but what got this pioneering and state of the art building to the standard in which it sits in today?

With the rejuvenation of Carlisle city centre in mind, Specifier Space Architects contacted CTD Architectural Tiles Specification manager Sean Lane for information and advice on the tiling element of the prestigious building.

At Space Architects we build on and learn from the past, but we always look to the future. We’re dedicated to understanding your business, your plans and your objectives – Space Architects.

Contractor Eric Wright worked with Darren Purvis from Space Architects who sourced a substantial amount of trend lead tiles with technical benefits to suit the Cumbria County Council Head Office project. These included the CTD Architectural Pennine tile in a natural finish which was used throughout.

CTD Architectural Tile range Pennine is a tranquil, natural looking glazed porcelain stone range made up from three colours, four sizes an R10 rating and two finishes – Natural & Honed.

This contemporary and versatile tile range was selected by Space Architects because of its range of sizes making it an adaptable and quality on trend tile and its ability to withstand a large footfall on a daily basis - great for the Cumbria County Council project.

This impacting building with its pioneering glass front suits the strong tile foundation where the overall cutting edge look is able to continually transcend throughout the building.

Speaking of the development, specification manager Sean stated: "Having worked with Darren from Space Architects on many projects over many years, I immediately knew of the concept he was trying to create - A spacious, tranquil feel to the building but covering all the technical aspects that a high footfall space needs. Another excellent project from Space Architects."
