The Spine, Liverpool

Part of the Paddington Village development located in the heart of Liverpool, The Spine is an inspirational 14 storey, 160,000 sq ft office building which is not only BREEAM Excellent rated but also one of the first in the UK to achieve a WELL Standard Certification. Its layout and design takes inspiration from the human body and uses biophilic design principles with strong connections to nature, resulting in an exceptional working environment for mental health and physical wellbeing.

The distinctive façade - achieved through millions of polygons applied to the glazing of the building - is inspired by the human skin and not only generates unique shadow patterns on the interior, but assists with solar control within the building.

Here at CTD Architectural Tiles we were excited to be a part of such an innovative project, supplying a range of technical porcelain tiles throughout the building. Concrete effect Powder Argent porcelain tiles in a 600x300mm format were specified for corridors on every floor throughout the building, fulfilling the client’s requirements for a slip resistant surface with a contemporary industrial look.

Our Core range of concrete inspired porcelain tiles is available in a wide choice of shades and sizes and for this project Core Plumb 600x300mm was selected and tiled in a modular format, providing contemporary, anti-slip flooring for all WCs and disabled WCs throughout the building. For an effective contrast, the WC walls were tiled in Rust White 600x300mm. Imitating sheet metal, the characterful Rust collection is an ideal choice for architects and designers looking to inject something a little different into their projects. The rectified, modular Rust and Core tiles worked perfectly together to achieve a seamless look, fulfilling the client’s brief for the grout lines to match from wall to floor.

CTD Architectural Tiles Specifications Manager Rob Lynch worked closely alongside AHR Architects, contractors Morgan Sindall and tilers GF Holding & Tiling Company (Northern) to fulfil this project demonstrating another great example of our ability to deliver functional, on-trend tiles that help to create exceptional workplace environments.
