One Embankment, Leeds

Whilst debate rages around the future of office design in the post lockdown world the importance of a welcoming and functional entrance space has never been higher. No longer will a desk and a pile of post suffice, these spaces set the tone and expectations for all the users of the building.

We have been lucky enough to have been shared an insight into current office design thinking by the Harris Partnership and their sensational renovation of prestigious Leeds office space No 1 the Embankment. This imposing building stands sentinel at the southern entrance to Leeds central business district.

For flooring our Core range was specified in the Argent colour, this provided the perfect complement to the cast concrete reception desk. This durable porcelain floor tile has an easy to clean matt (natural) surface finish whilst also offering a PTV+36 slip resistance value offering the very best balance in easy to maintain look and technical performance.

The star of this space is undoubtedly the wall cladding. Our Evoke range of 3D wall tiles was specified in the Area and Zoom profiles. Colour wise, White in both matt and gloss, cement in matt and to add that special touch, metallic gold was used as a spot insert to elevate the scheme to stratospheric levels. The real genius of the Harris Partnership designers was revealed when the rhomboid shape of our Evoke range was transposed onto the doors and glass partitioning to provide the aesthetic thread to knit the scheme together.

The end result is a stylish and welcoming reception area that looks amazing but is also functional enough to be repurposed for a number of different needs as the space evolves over time.

Commenting on the project, Specifications Manager Ian Teesdale told us “I was over the moon to be able to support the Harris Partnership on this project, watching the scheme develop from concept to installation was a genuine treat. The wall tiling in particular was a wonderful scheme and credit needs to be given to the guys at Anglian Tiling for their workmanship. This is a landmark building in Leeds and definitely one I will have a soft spot for driving past in the future”.
